THE GRANNY STITCHERS ARE A GROUP OF TEN OR ELEVEN LADIES WHO MEET ON MONDAY NIGHT 2 TIMES A MONTH
TO VISIT, LEARN, STITCH, EAT, GOSSIP, LAUGH AND GENERALLY HAVE FUN.  WE CALL IT OUR THERAPY SESSION. OUR MEMBERS RANGE FROM FORTYISH TO SEVENTYISH.  WE RANGE FROM NOVICE TO SEASONED DOLL MAKERS.  ALL OF US HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN SOME KIND OF CRAFT OR DOLL MAKING  HOBBY.  THE CLUB WAS STARTED BY 4 LADIES. THREE VETERAN PORCELAIN DOLL MAKERS WITH EXPERIENCE IN MAKING WHAT WE REFER TO AS ORDINARY CLOTH DOLLS. THE OTHER LADY HAD NEVER MADE DOLLS. WE STARTED OUT MEETING IN THE CLUB HOUSE OF A LOCAL PARK. WE HAD A HARD TIME GETTING PEOPLE INTERESTED IN JOINING US SO WE DECIDED TO MEET  IN OUR HOMES. WHO EVER HAD A PLACE LARGE ENOUGH FOR US TO  "TAKE OVER" WOULD HAVE THE MEETING FOR A MONTH. THEN SOMEONE ELSE WOULD HAVE IT FOR THE NEXT MONTH. WE ARE NOT AN          "ORGANIZED " CLUB. WE HAVE NO BYLAWS OR DUES  ETC. THE WORD FROM OTHER ORGANIZATIONS SAY THAT WE MUST HAVE BYLAWS ETC. BUT THIS WORKS FOR US FOR NOW. IF WE NEED MONEY FOR SOMETHING WE PASS THE HAT.  AT OUR LOCAL COUNTY FAIR IN 1999 WE TOOK 17 RIBBONS. NEEDLESS TO SAY WE WERE VERY PROUD OF OURSELVES.  WE HAD SEVERAL PROJECTS THAT WE ALL MADE ONE OF. THE RESULTS WERE FUN TO SEE CAUSE NO MATTER THAT THEY CAME FROM THE SAME PATTERN, THEY WERE ALL DIFFERENT. WE ENTERED 2 OF THESE PROJECTS IN THE FAIR AND COMPETED AGAINST EACH OTHER AND THE PUBLIC.  WE WERE ALLOWED 3 ENTERIES EACH IN 2 CATAGORIES. OUR THIRD ENTRIE WAS A SOLO PROJECT.  WE PLAN TO DO IT AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!
SOME OF OUR MEMBERS LIKE TO MAKE PIN DOLLS. THIS IS HOW WE GOT PEOPLE TO NOTICE US. WE WORE OUR PINS WHENEVER WE WENT OUT AND ABOUT AND THEN WHEN PEOPLE ASKED ABOUT THEM, WE TOLD THEM ABOUT OUR CLUB AND INVITED THEM TO VISIT.
